LOU (Creativity, Wellbeing)

Adaptive Athlete, Coach, Speaker.

Lou Hawkins is a powerhouse of resilience, determination, and transformation. Born without half of her left arm, Lou's journey began with challenges that most couldn’t imagine. From growing up in a turbulent household to battling the emotional scars left by her father’s rejection, she spent years hiding her true self—literally covering her arm for 24 years. Yet, Lou’s story is not defined by her struggles but by the incredible strength she found to overcome them.

Her turning point came in 2019, during a walk to her local shop when she realised she had left her arm cover at home, and with that left her feelings of shame at the door too. That revelation sparked a journey of self-acceptance and growth. From having to apply to over 120 jobs due to her disability, to proving herself capable in ways few believed possible, Lou's perseverance has carried her from a childhood of insecurity to becoming a role model she wishes she had when she was younger.

Now a personal trainer and advocate for mental health and self-belief, Lou inspires audiences to break free from limiting beliefs. Whether she’s recounting her struggles with anxiety, PTSD, and motherhood, or sharing how she turned setbacks into stepping stones, like her incredible work with adaptive sports equipment, her story resonates deeply.

Lou’s message is simple yet profound: “If I can, so can you.” As a lass from Barnsley who dared to dream, Lou encourages everyone to open the doors on their own corridor of possibilities and leave a legacy not for people but in people.
